Woodcreek and Williamsburg are the big master-planned communities, and most young backyards in town sit inside one of them. Old downtown Fate sits along SH 66, and Interstate 30 and FM 551 tie the newer sections together.

City of Fate Building Inspections issues residential permits. Most of Fate is new HOA subdivisions, and HOA approval usually comes before the city permit. Outside city limits, Rockwall County has little or no residential permitting.
